Challenge
Langley Design, working with Tilbury Douglas, created a range of contemporary seating for the Global Institute for Safe Autonomy, a new flagship research facility at the University of York. The state-of-the-art £12m workspace can accommodate up to 100 people, with a rooftop lab and specialist robotics equipment for design and testing purposes, allowing the Institute to lead the way into the new AI era.
Work undertaken
Langley used its Sheldon curved benches and seats (SBN307 / SST312), which can be manufactured to any size, to provide bespoke seating arrangements to various diameters and lengths to seamlessly integrate into the hard landscaped areas.
To finish off the areas, the company provided custom-made stools in the same style, to offer the Institute’s users additional seating space or a place to offload their bags and relax during their free time.
Chosing naturally durable hardwood iroko and a colour-coordinated powder coat finish throughout the project has created a uniformed and luxurious look.
