Bespoke Hoop shelter with green roof Stiwdio Hafod
Handspring designed, manufactured and installed a bespoke Hoop shelter for Stiwdio Hafod in Wrexham, a school that provides education and support for secondary school children who are unable to attend main stream school due to behavioural and mental health issues.
As well as making safe spaces for the pupils, Handspring pushed the sustainability of the design forward, using a lot more timber, switching from oak to Douglas Fir, and adding green roof elements.
Two extra spaces where created at the rear for the students: a safe space in contact with the ground; and a circular pod wrapped in wood. Dip bars were also included to help pupils use up excess energy.
Drawing skills were provided by Joe Tenner, with steelwork provided by Tyree Fabrications.
The final surfacing is still to be laid within the tracks.
