StronGuard™ RCS high-security fencing from Barkers was specified to mitigate the risk of a vehicle getting onto Paxford Road in the Oxford area, and obstructing railway tracks, protecting road users, rail users and staff.
Requirement
A section of railway line on Paxford Road sits below a humped bridge carrying a fast and winding country road. Whilst carrying out upgrade work around the region, the area was highlighted by Network Rail as a site vulnerable to the risks of a road vehicle getting onto and obstructing the tracks.
This site was on a road where vehicles are travelling at speed and slowing measures would not be practical or effective enough.
Solution
To mitigate the risk of a vehicle getting onto and obstructing the tracks, four 20m sections of StronGuard™ RCS high-security fencing have been deployed along each of the sides of the bridge.
StronGuardRCS will stop a 7.5ton vehicle travelling at 30mph and prevent the vehicle from reaching the train tracks below.
Outcome
By installing StronGuard™ RCS fencing from Barkers, Network Rail has reduced the risk of a road vehicle getting onto and obstructing the tracks, improving the safety for passenger and railway staff.
