Challenge

Kidlington Parish Council is responsible for several parks within the area for the community to use for fitness and recreation. Maintaining the grounds and providing facilities for optimum health and wellbeing are top priority.

The Councillors were looking for a partner who could provide first-class outdoor gym equipment and help the community make best use of it. The equipment needed to provide exceptional exercise value and challenge users of different ability levels. Fresh Air Fitness’ range was exactly what they were looking for.

Solution

After a rigorous tender process, Fresh Air Fitness was chosen to provide an outdoor gym facility for Kidlington Parish Council. The company installed a gym with 22 user stations across just 5 pieces of equipment. This included the Big Rig, a product Kidlington found unique to anything else on the market with its extensive and varied range of strength exercise opportunities. This was complemented with 4 additional cardio pieces to provide a complete gym that covered every aspect of strength and cardio.

The equipment is suitable for ages 11 to seniors, for those completely new to exercise or who regularly workout.

The project was completed with mulch surfacing, including groundworks, to provide a safe surface with drainage, protecting the longevity of the gym.

To support the installation and maximise usage of the equipment, Fresh Air Fitness also provided a significant amount of support, including:

Additional signage

Comprehensive signage showing how the equipment should be used, plus suggested workout plans for the Big Rig. Labels on every product also give clear instructions on the safe use of the equipment and recommended workout times. The free Fresh Air Fitness App can also be used to create further workouts and to follow instructional videos.

Fitness classes

As well as having access to the outdoor gym any day or time of the week, formal introductory fitness sessions were run to help launch the outdoor gym and motivate the community to use the new facility. This helped the community to feel confident about the equipment and to develop workout plans suited to their personal needs.

Result

The gym equipment has been incredibly well received by the community. The PT-run sessions were a fantastic success, getting people active and involved in using the gym, and enhanced the positive impact of the gym on the community by acting as a launchpad for many locals into their fitness journey.

With regular use, the community will reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease, diseases that are crippling the NHS, costing £10billion and £7.4billion per year respectively.
