This project at Urquhart Castle on the banks of Loch Ness was initiated after a visitor crashed through the original timber barrier (thankfully nobody was injured but the incident raised the risk of what could happen).
Historic Scotland contacted Urban Fencing to help improve the safety at the car park at the Castle's Visitors Centre, and to prevent vehicles crashing through the barriers.
Solution
Following a site visit and an assessment of the area and environment, Urban Fencing proposed its N2 BL01 crash barrier, providing W4 containment. The company installed a total of 350m of barriers across various locations on the site.
The N2 BL01 barrier is a timber-clad safety barrier system developed to offer road protection whilst providing the aesthetic appeal of natural timber. The barriers are made from corten steel with a timber cladding.
Outcome
This is probably the most iconic job Urban Fencing has installed in the UK, and the barrier looks the part within the surrounding environment.
