Challenge
The Isle of Anglesey County Council wanted to create a destination play area where children and families could spend quality time together at Holyhead Breakwater Country Park.
There was no previous equipment at the park, so the brief was simple and clear – to create a play area that caters for a range of ages and abilities, blends in with the natural surroundings, and is robust and low-maintenance as the park is expected to be very well used, especially in the summer months.
Solution
Wicksteed created a play space which starts with a sensory area with musical items, tactile panels and a sensory pathway leading to a fenced area for toddlers, which ensures that younger children can play freely and safely.
The equipment continues to flow and progress for the older and more adventurous children, with challenging climbing trails, multiplay units, group swings, slides and much more.
The equipment was chosen to give children the opportunity to play together and encourage inclusive play for all abilities. A pathway connects all of the equipment and allows good accessibility for all users to the toddler, junior and youth equipment.
