Context
The award-winning site for Lower Steenbergs Yard needed to make the most of the sloped landscape which led to the river to provide space for residents to sit and enjoy the views, plus gardens and micro allotment space. WoodBlocX street furniture and planters needed to work with the landscape to encapsulate the vision that the development would become an exciting and vibrant residential and commercial space.
Solution
WoodBlocX provided a total of 16 structures, including raised planters which line the main pathway. Each design is unique with a number of planters featuring integrated seating, which seamlessly fit within the main structures. The land slopes downward slightly and the main planters have been tiered to provide level planting areas, maximising space and functionality.
The modular nature of WoodBlocX, and its capabilities for adapting angles, gives landscape architects total design freedom. In this case, the installer, Wharton Landscapes was able to make adaptations, on site, accommodating those unforeseen changes to designs that can only be determined during construction. This ensured that the client’s vision was matched exactly.
The 28-apartment complex was completed in June 2021 and has since won the Future City Housing Award.
