Shelter, seating, illuminated bollards and surfacing
Baylis Landscape Contractors was asked to improve the aesthetics and access to the main building of Eden Girls School, Waltham Forest, London.
Work undertaken included:
Widening the existing path
Installing a new electrically-operated pedestrian gate
Installing three bespoke metal shade canopies with larch slates
Forming a new linear planting bed
New pre-formed concrete benches and cube seating (supplied by Artform Urban Furniture Ltd)
Lighting was requested by the client during the contract and Baylis put forward a suggestion of using a British-manufactured stainless steel bollard with an optical controller to ensure minimal upward glare.
Key challenge
The most challenging part of the project was the demolition of a small outbuilding which housed electrical equipment for the main gates and all the CCTV hardware which needed to remain in operation. This was successfully achieved through careful planning and safe systems of working.
Outcome
The project was completed in 8 weeks.
The yellow Ulticolour tarmac complemented the white concrete seating and soft brown larch slats on the shade canopies, to produce a high-quality end result.
