One of RTC Safety Surfaces' 12 installation teams travelled to Lister Park in Bradford, at the request of Kompan UK, to install wet pour and resin bound rubber mulch safety surfacing.
The play area’s safety surfacing was only one part of a £650,000 development project to update the park for local residents.
Kompan provided RTC's team with a bespoke design including a roadway, rainbow and other graphics spanning over 1,570m². The safety surfacing was to cover both the toddler and junior areas of the play area.
After the play equipment had been installed RTC's team began work, with particular care taken to ensure that all of the depths covered the Critical Fall Heights of different pieces of equipment to keep children safe as they played.
Each graphic and colour in the safety surfacing was hand-laid, with RTC's team leader hand-drawing each element on-site to ensure it matched the original design provided.
Wet pour and resin bound rubber mulch safety surfacing are ideal for parks because they reduce the risk of head injuries and are slip-resistant as well as porous, allowing visitors to enjoy the play area all year round, whatever the weather.
In total, the team spent 20 full days at Lister Park completing the install before travelling back to the head office in Burnley.
The play area has been hugely popular since the park’s reopening in summer 2021 and will be the final host of Bradford Council’s ‘Play In Parks’ event.
Members of the Kompan team commented online: “Wow! What a beautiful project!” and “thanks again RTC for another great surfacing job, the entire project looks incredible. A great team effort from all involved.”
