ASF worked with Metaltech UK and artist David F Wilson on the supply of timber and cast iron seats for Dundee City Council.
ASF's input was limited to the supply of the cast iron elements which comprised two bench ends and two internal feet bracings for each bench.
Working at first with Metaltech UK on initial deisgn renders, and latterly more detailed drawings, ASF set out a pattern-making and moulding plan for the cast iron bench ends
Once this was agreed, ASF worked directly with commissioned artist, David F Wilson, on the bench end design. David initially drew the designs and then ASF worked out, detail by detail, how it would set these up so that they would cast in a manner that represented his design perfectly. Feature gaps, tapers, corner fillets etc all needed to be presented in such a way that they would cast multiple times and always look great.
The bench ends and feet/bracing units were all cast in 100% recycled cast iron.
Once completed the bench ends and feet/braces were shipped to Metaltech UK in Dundee, where they were painted and the steel subframe and timber outers were added before being delivered to site
