Requirement

Swanke Hayden Connell Architects approached Cyclepods to assist them in planning a 200-bike parking facility for a basement area at the new KPMG head office at Canary Wharf, London. The current area had to accommodate 200 bikes spaces, as well as full changing facilities, a drying room, lockers, showers and toilets. In addition, the client wanted to achieve a BREEAM rating for the project.

Solution

The original CAD drawing by Swanke Hayden Connell only contained 120 cycle parking spaces using traditional bike stands. This original layout would not have earned the project the necessary credits to achieve the required BREEAM rating.

Once Cyclepods received the plans from Swanke Hayden Connell Architects, it began planning the area with Spacepods cycle racks. Spacepods offers space savings of up to 50% compared to traditional bike stands, and are an easy-to-use, semi-vertical system.

Outcome

The final plan generated for Swanke Hayden Connell Architects contained the 200 bikes spaces required, using less space then the original layout. As a result, the rest of the basement area could be planned for containing all the requirements needed to achieve a BREEAM outstanding rating.
