Requirement

Barratt East London required a cost-effective secure cycle storage option which also needed to be extremely space efficient. Barratt Homes was previously using standard bikes stands but having to place them within cages and compounds to comply with various schemes such as “Secured by Design” and “Code for Sustainable Homes”. Cages and compounds were required as standard bikes stands are not deemed secure enough, therefore, although the bike stands were cost effective, the cages and compounds added extra cost and maintenance issues.

Solution

Streetpods were presented to the head buyer on the development who immediately saw the benefits. Streetpods provide the cyclist with extra security for their bicycle, meaning no cages or compounds thus reducing cost to the developer. Streetpods also save approximately 30% space compared to standard bike stands, freeing up space for other services.

The main shield of the Streetpod is manufactured from 100% recyclable material, helping the developer to achieve green material targets. Finally the Streetpod is the only cycle parking product to achieve a level 2 Secured By Design security rating.

Outcome

At the St Andrews development within East London, 75 Streetpods were installed to secure 150 bikes without the need for cages. The products are well used and Cyclepods is currently working with Barratts to plan Streetpods into other projects.
