Contractor Galliford Try was responsible for the project, which combines new-build with the existing Victorian façade to create high-quality apartments adjoining the city centre. The roof areas partially incorporate green roofs and terrace areas for recreation.
Rooftop seating
The final designs for the Redcliff Quarter roof terrace seats featured interlocking FSC hardwood slats mounted onto a hot dip galvanised and powder-coated mild steel sub-frame.
The benches were designed to be installed over large roof voids so the seating sub-structure had to be immensely strong. The seating also had to be vented to provide adequate air circulation in the car park below.
As this was a rooftop project the large seating units had to be carefully designed in smaller sections so they could be manually carried around on site and easily assembled in situ.
