Context

120 Moorgate is a £24m design and build development by Blenheim House Construction for Luxembourg SARL. The project involved transforming a tired example of brutalist 1970s architecture into a modern dynamic office development, for occupation by WeWork. The existing building façade was removed and slab edges reconfigured to allow the installation of a feature pre-cast stone façade with curtain walling infills. The office space was extended at roof level and new external terrace areas created – on which IOTA’s planters were installed.

Requirement

IOTA was commissioned to supply bespoke steel planters, plus composite wood benching. This extended to a total of 64 linear metres, comprising  44m of planters plus 20m of benching. The benching disguises mansafe system attachment points, and those elements were thus designed to be removable.

Solution

The planters were manufactured from 2.0mm zintec steel, polyester powder coated to RAL 7021 (Black Grey). The benching elements were fabricated from Millboard composite decking in Smoked Oak colour.

IOTA also supplied and installed thermal insulation, reservoirs, drainage, planting medium and mulch for all planters (the planting itself was conducted by WeWork).

The entire order was packed for crane lifting directly up to terraces on the 2nd and 7th floors.
