Timber-effect powder-coated steel swing frame for West Gorton Community Park
West Gorton, Manchester had suffered from flooding in recent years. After consultation with residents, the location was to be divided into three separate areas. The woodland area towards the north of the park was planted up as a 'rain garden' along with various timber play features.
Solution
Massey & Harris was approached to provide play kit, and the company supplied its new and innovative timber-effect powder-coated swing frame. The timber-effect swing frame consists of a strong steel frame with a lifelike timber effect applied to it. Up to 15 different timber patterns can be applied to the swing frame.
With the swing being steel, it will not be affected by the potential water absorption of the ‘rain garden’, and with the swing frame being timber effect, it harmonises with the surrounding environment.
Outcome
The end result for the project was a clear demonstration in how material technologies can be used to make even play equipment perform at a high level. The client was impressed that Massey & Harris could provide something that fitted into the environment, yet offered superior performance in a challenging day-to-day application.
