Hertford St. Andrews Primary contacted Setter after having seen the company's stall at a governors’ conferencs. After a site consultation, a brief was established for providing exciting new play provisions as well as the refurbishment of existing playground features.
Their EYFS pupils didn’t have anywhere to play in their old play area, so Setter proposed installing Fair Bear, a timber tower climbing frame that has activities to three sides and a HDPE slide to zip back down. The variety of activities ensures key motor skills like grip-and-grasp and upper body strength are challenged, whilst the timber deck has a playhouse feel for imagination-play games.
The previously bare tarmac play area was given a splash of wetpour rubber colouring, which was themed as a field, beach and sea, to spark the imagination. Some existing beach huts sit on their beach, whilst the blue sea is open for exploration.
A small imagination-play village sits beside their outdoor teaching space, with two Twigwams, and Drape Posts for free-form den making.
A post office shop sits beside their timber huts, whilst the post box is across the play space, to encourage movement.
A bespoke timber pergola provides a space for quiet rest, relaxation and socialising.
