Context

Handspring Design was commissioned by the award-winning Bank House restaurant and cocktail bar in Hathersage, located in the Peak District National Park, to create a timber pergola for its outdoor area.

Work undertaken

The pergola comprises a Douglas Fir frame with almost 50m of continuous wall plate. Eight tabled wedged scarf joints hold the beam together, and 12 posts and 24 braces keep it in the air. All joints are mortise and tenon with double-pegged draw dowels.

This is phase one, with seating, planters and a roof structure to follow.
