Challenge

As part of the Priority Schools Building Programme 2, Bartholomew School in Oxfordshire underwent a £4million extension and refurbishment programme undertaken by Kier Construction, who asked Langley Design to supply and install its own range of tensile canopies.

Solution

These weatherproof structures are a great addition to the newly landscaped areas and provide simple yet stylish cover for the children to enjoy the outdoors. They can double up as outdoor classrooms, or be used for outdoor dining.

The canopies can come in a range of sizes however Bartholomew School opted for two 5 x 3m units and, because of Langley Design's bespoke manufacturing capabilities, they were also able to create a tensile canopy that was linked together as part of the same design. This allowed the school to have another 5 x 6m unit, providing a larger covered area for the pupils to enjoy.

Kier and the school had full design input into the structures, choosing the colours they wanted the galvanised metal work and tensile fabric to be in order to match the school's colour scheme.
