Context

Langley Design worked in collaboration with ISG to supply, deliver and install bespoke cycle shelters as part of the University of Reading's recently investment of over £40 million into the redevelopment and refurbishment of its library in order to increase space for individual study to make better use of the areas on the ground and 1st floors.

Work undertaken

Langley's flexible and bespoke manufacturing abilities enabled them to combine three design elements into the first unit.

Firstly, a covered area which acts as a smoking shelter was combined onto the back of a fully secured cycle storage area. This was achieved with timber cladding, which not only improves the aesthetics of the unit but offers vital secure cycle parking for the site.

The final element is a further covered area to store bikes under. The second unit was somewhat unusual in appearance,as it was based on a facetted curved design by the architect. The unit follows the path line and ties in beautifully with the other landscaped areas.
