Context
Anti-trap bow-top fencing was installed at Downe Primary School in the London Borough of Bromley, to demarcate a grassy play area and to provide extra boundary demarcation to the existing outer perimeter.
Requirements and work done
19.1m of 1.2m-high anti-trap bow-top fencing, and a 1.2m-high, 1.5m-wide single-leaf self-closing gate were supplied for the site. These were both finished with a blue RAL 5010 polyester powder coating to match the school colours.
The school chose to install anti-trap bow-top fencing for the safety features incorporated into the design, such as hoops that are spaced at a wider distance to prevent children getting their arms, limbs or heads stuck and creating a fence that is highly suitable for parks and playgrounds.
Jacksons' Anti Trap Bow Top fencing is RoSPA approved, conforming to play fence standards in BS EN 1176.
The fence is formed of galvanised steel railing panels that can be stepped or raked upon manufacturing to accommodate sloping ground, with a welded tubular pale-through-rail construction and vandal-proof connectors.
Outcome
The 1.2m-high fencing allows teachers to keep an eye over children during break times, without the possibility of interfering or becoming a distraction, but equally with good visibility and easy access to the playground should any need arise.
The height of the fencing also stops children from climbing out, while preventing them from feeling trapped, which in rural locations also allows them to appreciate the environment; an important factor in a child’s development and awareness.
