Requirement
CLD Fencing Systems was approached, due to their British Cycling Specified Velodrome Safety Fencing System, to design a safety fence that would allow Preston Park in Brighton, the oldest velodrome in the UK, to once again welcome competitive racing on the 138-year-old course.
Product supplied
A total of 605lnm of Velodrome Fencing was manufactured and 6 access gates to match the fencing.
Outcome
The fencing was supplied on time and on budget, with work completed on site by a CLD Fencing System approved contractor in time for the grand opening by Great Britain Cycling member Pete Mitchell. Mr Mitchell said “It is fantastic that the track was back to competition standards, this is where I fell in love with cycling.”
The project was funded by a joint venture between British Cycling and Brighton & Hove City Council and was supported by Former Tour de France rider and Team Sky Sports Director Sean Yates who had campaigned for the track to be reopened since its closure.
Comments
“Preston Park Velodrome has reopened to Competitive Cycling thanks to CLD Fencing Systems dedicated Velodrome Track Fencing, manufactured and designed to British Cycling standards. The 580m track in Brighton, the oldest in the United Kingdom, was closed to any competitive riding in 2015 after users of the track identified, in particular, the fencing but also other aspects of the track which were in need of repair.“
