Context

Lang+Fulton supplied louvred cladding panels for a bespoke cycle compound. The bike shelter provides safe storage for bikes at the Mill Stream House luxury apartments, part of the new retail-led Westgate quarter in Oxford.

In order to reduce traffic and encourage cycling within the inner city, no provision was made for car parking within the development; as an alternative, each property was sold with secure storage for two bicycles.

The bike store features Italia-80V steel panels. On the north and south elevations the top edge of the panels were raked from 2.95 to 3.35m to follow the 3° slope of the roof, designed for rainwater management.

The panels provide excellent security in addition to ventilation, good daylight and 80% visual screening, depending on the angle of view.

The steel construction of the louvres is extremely durable and the panels were hot-dip galvanised prior to polyester powder coating (RAL7037) to contrast with the support steelwork and provide a long-lasting finish.
