Context

A heavily trafficked bridge in Lancashire had seen a rise in accidents, which was attributed to poor quality markings on the road and the bridge parapet itself. The bridge is situated on one of the main through roads in the area.

Requirements

The challenge was to provide improved visibility markings, whilst keeping any road closures to an absolute minimum to avoid disruption.

Goals

  • Create a safer road surface and avoid road incidents.
  • Improve visibility and increase light reflectivity (glass beads).

Solution

The solution was to re-mark all the road markings, re-apply the chevron stripes to the bridge parapet and replace the road stud inserts.

Products supplied

  • Spectrum UltraLine for the road markings, to provide maximum durability even under high traffic volumes
  • Spectrum ViaLine, used to provide bright, sharp, contrasting chevrons on the parapets
  • Glass beads, used with both Spectrum products to provide retro-reflectivity
  • New depressible stud inserts, further improving night-time safety

Deployment of class-leading equipment such as the LineLazer 130HS airless spray machine facilitated a rapid and effective install. The use of advanced materials from the Spectrum range will assure a long service life.

Outcome

The finished result is crisp ,vibrant markings which will improve road safety and reduce the number of accidents.
