Context
Kingsbridge Lane links Southampton Central train station and the prestigious Guildhall and Civic Centre. It is one of the first areas visitors see when arriving into Southampton by train and therefore a key area for regeneration. The lane receives constant bicycle traffic and is a key cut through for pedestrians visiting the city.
Requirement
Southampton City Council wanted an attractive, hard-wearing, slip-resistant surface with Sustainable Urban Drainage (SuDs) credentials to avoid puddles or flooding in extreme weather.
The project goals were to:
- Create an impressive hardwearing slip-resistant surface
- Install a permeable surface that is SuDs-compliant
- Choose a finish to complement the engraved granite blocks
- Minimise disruption for the general public
Solution
Both the client and landscape architect decided that DekorGrip Resin Bound surfacing would be the best and preferred surface for the application.
DekorGrip Resin Bound is suitable for pedestrian and traffic requirements and can be specified in an aggregate blend that will complement surroundings and key features such as the grante blocks.
Southampton City Council and their contractor, Balfour Beatty, chose DekorGrip’s BBA-approved Resin Bound system using a Pearl Grey aggregate blend.
Outcome
Southampton City Council, Meon and the main contractors worked closely to deliver a surface that was functional, BBA certified and aesthetically pleasing.
Meon gave guidance and support throughout the project to ensure the contractor delivered a great surface with minimal disruption to traffic and walkway users.
