The project architects, Bennetts Associates, describe the scheme as “the replacement of a windswept car park with a rich mix of buildings, courtyards and reinstated street-lines. The first of 3 phases is a state-of-the-art building for the School of Informatics.
Externally, the prefabricated elevations play on the distinction between the stone-faced streets of Edinburgh and the need for more light-reflective surfaces to the courtyard.

Lang+Fulton was asked to supply their most robust standard grating, Stereo-4, for a large bike store which was prominently located within the central courtyard. It was important that the materials and simple geometric shapes should harmonise with the surrounding architectural concept, without dominating the space. The large 2.5x2m galvanised panels fulfilled this brief and provided the required security.
