Context
Ursuline Catholic Primary School in Liverpool wanted to make the best possible use of their allocated annual PE and sports funding to create a long-lasting sporting legacy that pupils could enjoy for years to come.
Work undertaken
AMV Playgrounds was recommended by another school in the area that they had carried out works for, with interest shown in their vast and versatile multisport goal unit ranges.
Staff at the school particularly liked the Goal Unit 109 with netball, wickets and targets. High rebound fencing was also required to keep the ball from straying, especially into hedges and neighbouring gardens behind the goal area.
Steel tennis nets were also considered, although there were questions as to whether the intended location offered sufficient space.
AMV provided the school with a full CAD layout drawing of the play area to scale. This enabled them to demonstrate how best to maximise use of the overall space and to also ensure safe and effective game play, with adequate spacing between items.
Combined netball / football pitch markings where laid down to allow a full game for either sport, using the goals / netball hoops provided at each end.
One goal was constructed with 3m-high rebound fencing to prevent balls disappearing behind the goal. The other had a basketball on the reverse side in addition to its front-facing netball hoop, increasing the number of school sports catered for in a single installation. Both goals also include cricket stumps and ball targets.
Finally, two steel tennis nets were positioned along the outer edge of the sports pitch to act as a natural zoning barrier to keep balls in play, and also to allow for two simultaneous games of tennis to be played when the netball / football court is not in use.
Outcome
“Pupils now have a wide variety of sports equipment to choose form and the teachers can also do more activities outside during PE lessons.”
- Tony Hampson, Office Manager.
