Massey & Harris worked on two phases of a project at Heald Place School in Manchester, first with a contractor and then secondly direct with the school. The scope of the project was to create a new zoned play area to allow children of various ages to play and also use the play equipment alongside the curriculum.
Climbing structures
Heald Place Play Area had to incorporate play for children of all ages, and this was achieved by using challenging climbing frame structures alongside the company's play tower unit for younger children.
Water play and educational elements
The school also required some water play elements, which were achieved by manufacturing some custom-made stainless steel water trays. Alongside the water play element, the school required some markings which would help children with skills such as literacy and numeracy.
Feature mound
To give some relief from the flat playground, Massey & Harris also created a mound which was covered by artificial grass. The children enjoy this feature as they can rest on the mound or even roll down it for added fun.
Shelter
To provide shelter for the parents when collecting their children, a timber lean-to canopy was manufactured. The children can also use this when it’s raining allowing classes still to be taught outdoors, even if the weather conditions are inclement.
