Context
An international centre of design, V&A Dundee presents the brilliance of Scottish creativity and the best of design from around the world. The first ever dedicated design museum in Scotland and the only other V&A museum anywhere in the world outside London, V&A Dundee provides a place of inspiration, discovery, and learning through its mission to enrich lives through design.
The building sits within shallow mirror and reflection pools that create a link to the adjacent River Tay and Discovery Dock; the home of the RRS Discovery, the command of the famous explorer Captain Robert Falcon Scott RN, ‘Scott of the Antarctic’.
Work undertaken
Fountains Direct was involved in the project design team from an early stage and was involved in the development of the water feature designs from concept.
The water within each pool is circulated, filtered and sterilised. Medium-rate, deep-bed sand filters are filled with crushed glass media for more efficient backwash and longer life. The dosing systems used are fully automatic, chlorine and pH dosing control systems.
In-pool lighting to the building façade was supplied and installed by Fountains Direct to the lighting designer's specification.
Fountains Direct provide a weekly maintenance service for this water feature.
- Reflective mirror pool design and installation
- Pool lighting for building facade supply and install
- Plant room with automatic dosing systems
- Weekly maintenance service
Outcome
This was an exciting and prestigious project to have been involved with and both the client and the FDL team are very happy with the results.
