In conjunction with Birmingham City Council, the Canal & River Trust is redeveloping Tyseley Wharf, on the Grand Union Canal, to once again be a hive of industry. IOTA were requested for the design, system manufacture and supply of a complete street furniture package in corten steel for the complex redevelopment of Tyseley Wharf by contractors A & H Construction and Developments plc. At the heart of the redevelopment lies a new, modern business park providing up to 250,000 square feet of industrial warehousing and buildings.
In line with the industrial heritage and aesthetic, IOTA supplied pre-weathered planters, benches, tree grilles and guards with the physical characteristics of aged corten already developed.
16 tree planters measuring 2000mm (l) x 2000mm (w) 900mm(h) were manufactured in 3mm corten steel. Each planter was designed with an internal reservoir system for low-maintenance irrigation.
A total of 9 4mm corten steel benches measuring 2000mm (l) x 590mm (w) x 450mm (h) with 70mm (w) x 150mm (h) Iroko FSC timbers were also designed and supplied canal-side. 8 1200mm (l/w) square tree grilles in 5mm corten steel were also supplied, including 1000mm (h) tree guards.
