Bespoke rotating seating for Riverside Gardens, London
Factory Furniture created a range of bespoke rotating seating, including seats with integral planters, to make the most of the beautiful views at Riverside Park on the banks of the River Thames. The seats and chairs are made from corten steel and FSC cumaru wood and are planted with a selection of drought-resistant, aromatic species
As part of the development of the South Bank area, a new 2,000sqm public park has been created. This replaces a difficult to access area of low-quality landscaping on the banks of the River Thames just west of Vauxhall Bridge. It is a spot where J.M.W. Turner regularly came to paint.
The park now provides an open space to be enjoyed by residents and visitors that enhances the spectacular views of the River Thames and iconic Battersea Power Station. The new area also promotes the attraction of wildlife through the diverse planting of shrubs and trees.
Work undertaken
Studio Tord Boontje approached Factory Furniture to look at some seating designs for the Riverside Gardens, Nine Elms.
Factory Furniture created a variety of seating for the location, all of which could be rotated, allowing the user freedom to choose one of the many beautiful views from the park.
The seats can be enjoyed by individuals seeking some privacy or rotated to face each other for larger groups. The scheme includes three rotating seats with integral planters and two clusters of three rotating chairs.
The seats and chairs are made from corten steel and FSC cumaru wood. The rotating planter seats are planted with a selection of drought-resistant, aromatic species.
