Context

This project for East Kilbride shopping centre was unusual as there was no remit at all. The site was being refurbished to create a more welcoming and attractive entrance area. A planting area was required and the solution was required within three weeks.

The project was complicated further by an uneven site and the need to work around various drainage holes.

Work undertaken

Working from this rough idea, Livingreen Design was able to create a design then transfer it into production drawings and a realisable scheme very quickly.

The design was a unique organic wave form that was composed from a number of smaller curved modules that were bolted together. The modular system was cost-effective but produced a striking ribbon effect that extended along the entrance areas of the shopping centre. The various modules all had to be carefully engineered to join up neatly at the top edge despite the uneven ground, and were made to very fine tolerances.

Outcome

The planting beds were designed and manufactured within the very short time window to the client's satisfaction.

They were given a blue finish as requested by the client, and were subsequently planted up with a range of plants to brighten up the area.
