Context

Queens Square in Crawley was redeveloped and opened to the public October in 2017. The £3.2m scheme included new paving, seating, street furniture, plants and a decorative water feature as a focal point, commissioned from Fountains Direct.

Dry plaza fountain

The water feature comprises a 50-jet dry plaza arrangement with DMX-controlled pumps.

RGB LED lighting creates a dynamic and vivid water display.

The fountains are arranged in a square matrix pattern. Each fountain is installed with its own pump located within the sump formed below the jet.

Each pump is DMX-controlled and can therefore provide variable height capabilities. Each jet is a 14mm-diameter clear stream solid jet. Maximum possible height is controlled to prevent splash and excessive wind drift.

Water circulation is provided from the plant room. Water is drawn from the storage reservoir and pumped to the feature via 50 individual inlets. The water returns to the storage reservoir via floor-mounted return flow armatures, return flow pipework, the surrounding channel drain and a double sack filter.

Fountain lighting

The fountain jets of the feature are illuminated using OASE Profi Plane 320 LED underwater lights.

Controls

The control panel, which is located within the plant room, has a touchscreen interface. This intuitive method of control simplifies operator interface and adjustment of the system.
