Diane McCormick was commissioned by South Eastern Trust HSC to create five printed perspex lightboxes and eight screens for interior courtyards at Ulster Hospital, Dundonald.

Concept

Light boxes and screens located in the courtyards are enhanced by the use of printed images themed on wild flowers and grasses.

Complementing the geometry of the hard landscaping the artwork design takes photographs of local wild flowers and grasses, distorts the colours and linear edges and brings the designs together to form a colourful and intriguing series of patterns and textures, within a grid format.

Plants which normally have no place in the tamed garden show their character more by the use of coloured filters and change of colours from the normal greens to bright purples and oranges. These colours will complement the planting scheme proposed from pale pinks of the Astilbe and Sedum to the orange berries of the Pyracantha and blues of the Hydrangea.

Plants proposed for inclusion have strong patterns and linear qualities such as nettles, blackberry briars, dandelion seed heads, wild grasses and elderberry flowers.
