SDS Aqua-Swirl® is a hydrodynamic separator used in water management systems to capture pollutants, such as oil and debris, within surface water runoff. It can effectively eliminate more than 80% of total suspended solids.

SDS Aqua-Swirl® can be connected to a stormwater attenuation or infiltration system, such as a SDS GEOlight® geocellular system, to remove the majority of pollutants before ran off water is conveyed to a suitable outlet.

Systems are available in 9 standard sizes. Both inlet and outlet pipes can be tailored to site specific requirements for retrofitting to an existing stormwater management system. Systems can also be manufactured to a bespoke size to meet specific water flow rates, treatment and quality requirements.

Performance

Suspended solids removal >80%

Material

Constructed in HDPE plastic.

How it works

When stormwater enters the SDS Aqua-Swirl® separator through its tangential inlet, a circular flow is induced. Due to a combination of gravitational and hydrodynamic forces and interaction with internal baffles, the solids migrate to the centre of the swirl and settle. Floatable oil and debris are also captured. Treated flow exits the separator while the pollutants remain inside the separator.

Maintenance

There is direct access to the sediment and oils accumulated in the reservoir via inspection chambers from the surface.
