Challenge

Historic St Nicholas Church in Tackley, Oxfordshire, was in urgent need of a new pathway leading to its doors. The existing footpath had an uneven gravel path leading to the main door, which the elderly in the congregation were finding more challenging to traverse, particularly as the path was uphill all the way from the car park.

Due to the age of the church, any surface that was specified needed to look aesthetically pleasing and complement the surrounding environment.

Solution

The church specified a hard-wearing surface with a choice of colours that would contrast with the rustic concrete path edgings and gravestones, as well as blending in with other surroundings within the graveyard.

Meon's DekorGrip resin bound surfacing system in a Natural Wicker blend was the ideal choice and suited the specification perfectly. The resin bound surface has a smooth but good slip-resistant finish which is ideal for elderly users as it eliminates any trip hazards along the pathway.

Outcome

The installation of the surface was a great success. The look of the Natural Wicker excellently harmonises with the new path lighting housed within stone and is laid around flexible brass lettering outside the front door. It is also fully permeable, meaning there is no standing water.
