Challenge

Hadleigh Park was the venue for the London 2012 Olympic mountain biking events. The country park, owned by Essex County Council, is now part of an Olympic Legacy Project.

The wide open landscapes and hilly terrain of Hadleigh Park attracts a mix of pleasure walkers, amateur riders and serious mountain bike enthusiasts. Its mountain bike trails are open to the general public and cater for novices and professionals alike, with designated trails ranging from easy to hard to Olympic level.

Centering around the provision of mountain bike activities, the project also includes developing walking trails and visitor facilities at the park – providing more opportunities for people to access, enjoy and appreciate the area’s nature and history.

In addition Essex County Council’s primary concern is the welfare of all its visitors and access to safety information is key in delivering a safe and enjoyable experience for all, where riders make an informed decision before embarking on their ride.  Improved signage was required to inform and keep visitors safe.

Solution

Fitzpatrick Woolmer manufactured and supplied  a suite of signage products for the park including orientation panels, wayfinding posts and finger posts, interpretive lecterns and badging signs.

This combined scheme of interpretation and wayfinding ensured the hidden stories of this historic landscape are revealed.
