Challenge
Angel Lane in Stratford is Unite’s latest London development of student accommodation, offering extensive views of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The client wanted to develop the outdoor area to create space to relax in.
Solution
Contractor McAleer & Rushe Ltd presented WoodBlocX's design team with a brief to help create several outdoor living spaces at Angel Lane.
The company work closely with the contractor to design and calculate the required components to complete the project. 10 raised beds were included in the final design, 8 of which were extremely large and angular. Each bed also incorporated seating and lighting and were secured into paving slabs below.
WoodBlocX's team of 6 installers completed the build in a week.
Outcome
The WoodBlocX system made the large, angular shapes of the planter beds much easier to create compared with having to cut sleepers into shape.
The raised beds were installed at the final stage of the apartment build. No cranes were available on-site to lift the pallets and other materials to the higher levels, which would have been a major issue if the contractors had decided to use larger heavier sleepers. However, as WoodBlocX are lightweight and ideal for working within confined spaces, they were easily transported to each level by hand.
The planters were installed well within the given time constraints and the contractors were delighted with the speed at which WoodBlocX's team erected the beds and the minimal mess and disruption caused on site, which is essential at such a late stage in the project.
