Alpha Rail metal railings and gates have been chosen to demark a boundary adjacent to the Dudley Canal Trust Site on a project to create a new vehicular width pathway linking the Dudley Canal to Black Country Living Museum, an award winning open air museum that tells the story of industrial developments in and around Dudley and the West Midlands.

Opened 34 years ago, this highly popular tourist attraction now spans an area of over 26 acres and welcomes more than 300,000 visitors through its gates each year.

In October 2012, £4.5m of European funding was awarded towards the redevelopment of the Castle Hill site to create shared visitor facilities. The project revolved around creating new access and infrastructure to create one shared arrival point for visitors to Dudley Zoo and Castle, the Black Country Living Museum and the Dudley Canal Trust.

As part of the project, Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council appointed specialist landscaping and civil engineering company, Jack Moody LCE Limited as the main contractor for the new pathway. Alpha Rail was appointed to manufacture and supply metal railings and gates.

Alpha Rail provided metal railings and gates to the architects exact specification. This included 150m of 2m high arrowhead vertical bar metal railings which were galvanised and powder coated black and a 4m wide x 2m high double leaf gate. This decorative gate was galvanised and powder coated white with red highlighted circle features.

From watching bread and tools being made to riding on a tram and going underground in old mine shafts, to rides on canal boats, The Black Country Living Museum and Dudley Canal promises learning experiences for all visitors, enticing them with inspiring stories of real people, their streets and homes, work and daily lives, so they can see, taste, feel, smell, hear and join in 300 years of Black Country history. It has also been the film set for a number of TV programmes and films such the Land Girls and Peaky Blinders.
