The A562 Warrington Road, Cheshire, is a principal arterial highway through Warrington and as part of the council’s highways improvement scheme, IOTA were commissioned to design, manufacture and install a total of 92 bespoke Zintec steel planters to serve as both a visual improvement to the landscape aesthetic as well as acting as a functional visual barrier between the carriageways.
Each uniformly designed planter measured 2460mm (l) x 1500mm (w) x 500mm (h) and was manufactured from robust 1.5mm thick Zintec steel. Durability and strength were paramount for their use on a public highway as well as a pavement application.
Integrated into their design were 95mm high runners and steel eye bolts in the base. These features act as anti-theft attachment points for the largest plants, important for a public landscaping project. The planters also included a 100mm deep internal reservoir system, hidden within the construction of the planter for a seamless, integral irrigation approach for easy maintenance.
In stark contrast to the bright foliage and vegetation, the planters were polyester powder coated to RAL 7012 (Basalt Grey), reflective of their highway environment.
