Designed by Planit Design, the £26 million rebuild project at Grace Academy, Darlaston has been described as "aspirational" with its beautiful architecture and modern amenities, which planned to cater for 1,500 school pupils.
Grace Academy replaced the former Darlaston Community Science College in 2009 and rebuild plans were announced soon after. Over a period of 2 years and with a team of 250, Kier Moss delivered this project. An official opening ceremony was held to mark the occasion, with singer Connie Talbot, from Streetly; ‘Blind Dave’ Heeley; and the Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Mohammad Nazir; in attendance.
Grace Academy's Principal David Shaw said of the rebuild project:
“It is absolutely fantastic, it is like a breath of fresh air. The biggest thing it brings is aspiration. We can really show the students they are worth it, we believe in the value of our students.”
The new development at Herberts Park Road boasts new, modern facilities including music and recording studios, specialist drama studios and a full-size competition basketball sports hall. There are also plans for three full-size grass football pitches and one all-weather artificial pitch to be incorporated.
The landscape uses a selection of Tobermore's finest paving products including Sienna in Mid Grey and Silver, Fusion in Silver, tumbled Tegula Trio in Bracken and Hydropave 240 in Mellow Bracken and Natural, which has achieved a modern, stylish ambience, complementing the impressive facility perfectly.
