The site of the former steelworks in Ebbw Vale was subject to a major regeneration project.
Solution
A new 151m cable stay bridge was installed by CTS in June 2014. The bridge has a 34m high cable mast to support the four spans of 47, 50, 30 and 25m with tensioned cables.
The cables connecting the bridges to the cable tower were tensioned using a Macalloy Techno Tensioner. Varying sizes of cranes were used by CTS to lift the bridge spans into place including a 500 tonne, 250 tonne, 150 tonne and a 40m mechanical work flatform. 60m of matching off bridge parapet were installed to complete the works.
CTS's team was on site for 2 weeks.
Outcome
The bridge provides the final link in the area's regeneration and allows local residents to safely cross above a road, railway line and river thus avoiding a lengthy journey to access local schools and leisure facilities.
