Challenge
A £1m redevelopment scheme to upgrade a traveller site at Coldharbour Lane in Aylesford, owned by Kent County Council, was announced in 2011. The project was to include an increase in the number of pitches, upgrading of washing facilities and the building of a playground for children, as well as enhancing security and establishing a screen around the site to reduce road noise from the busy A20 nearby.
The key challenge was to identify a perimeter fence which would combine effective security with environmental noise reduction capabilities without compromising the aesthetic appeal for local residents / travellers using the site.
Solution
The final project represented a 224m run of 3m high 12K Acoustic Envirofence, supported by timber posts and black steel spur support posts.
Six matching single leaf gates were also incorporated into the build. The exceptionally high number of gates installed was due to the need to enable access to the lighting columns featured on the site.
Outcome
12K's attractive timber construction meets the planning / architects’ normal acoustic specification of 10-12kg per square metre to deliver effective noise reduction. The anti-climb design provides enhanced security and privacy. 12K has a 25-year guarantee.
