Challenge

ASF were approached by NPS South West and asked to offer design ideas for a bespoke granite bench based on the style of the company's Modernist Features 2 profile. The design needed to follow a curved, and possibly stepped or descending walkway.

Solution

Following a number of emails and discussions, it was clear that no final scale drawing of the proposed site was yet available as the project was at such an early stage. ASF only had near dimensions to work with, so initial conceptual drawings were produced, showing the bench following a curved wall and dropping over a slight gradient along the estimated 21 metre length of the curve.

The standard design of the bench has a cutaway back, but it became obvious that for this project, a solid granite bench would be required as it needed to sit flush with the surface of the paving.

Further drawings were provided and ASF was specified on the project.

Following specification and the receipt of full working dimensions from the architect, a final set of drawings was produced showing the finished design features, including bespoke curved bench ends and bespoke angled bench face undercut.

The bench was supplied in royal white granite with a flamed finish.

Outcome

The project was delivered on time and on budget.
