Challenge

Etangs Gobert are former ponds at the castle of Versailles near Paris, which were used as tanks to feed the fountains of the Royal palace.

Now drained and unused for a long period of time, it was decided to revitalise these spaces and convert them into public parks.

The landscape was to be structured around an and attractive central element: a series of large shaped benches that simulate a copse or grove, but would contrast with the lawn and surrounding environment.

Solution

Benches were manufactured to specification in architectural concrete in a white colour and a smooth finish.

The piece is composed of 56 separate elements that were fitted together on site.

Outcome

The benches have revitalised a formerly unused space.
