Challenge

The Zeeheldenplein in the Belgian coastal town of Ostend is a memorial square that commemorates the fallen 'heroes of the sea'.

This very large project required an integrated suite of architectural concrete products for the rest areas and 'bleacher' style seating for visitors to stop and relax.

The scheme also incorporated large red metal block sculptures, conceived by artist Arne Quinze, who worked in conjunction with Urbastyle to design some of the concrete furniture pieces.

Solution

Urbastyle supplied large-format Fasonado concrete slabs in a size of 3700x3000mm, 140mm thick and in a yellow finish.

A total of almost 1600m2 of paving slabs and 500 linear metres of benches were supplied, as well as protection walls, steps and tailored slabs for the fountain.
