Forming the centrepiece of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Olympic Park is the largest new urban park in the capital since the Victorian era and was a catalyst for regeneration in East London.
Innovative street furniture was required for the post-games transformation of the area into a permanent parkland called Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The requirements were for street furniture to be of the highest quality, have a clear purpose, contribute to uncluttered spaces and the easy movement of people through the space.
Solution
Woodscape designed and manufactured a suite of bespoke timber street furniture for the project, in accordance with the LLDC Inclusive Design Standards, including slatted picnic tables, special curved seats with backrests and also lounger style seating in a range of sizes to suit the scheme.
Outcome
Phase 1 of the development, The North Park, openedin July 2013, marking the anniversary of the Games' opening ceremony.
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will be fully open in Spring 2014 as it is transformed with new community centres, cafes and gardens for all to enjoy.
