Bespoke street furniture
An innovative Chinese Garden in Newcastle's Chinatown is the home to a range of bespoke street furniture by Woodscape.
Woodscape created a number of sustainable hardwood chess tables with engraved slate chessboards for Newcastle City Council.
As well as these unique tables, a number of Woodscape’s Type 2 curved seats have been installed in the garden space to create a level seating area. The Type 2 curved seat offers great flexibility for landscape architects when designing a space as they can be created to any specific curve size (or radius) to fit the curvature of the landscape.
The park is part of an award winning programme called NE1: a business-led initiative which aims to champion Newcastle city centre. Newcastle-based landscape architects, Oobe were commissioned by NE1 Ltd to design the space.
The Chinese Garden has transformed a city space that was looking tired and unloved, bringing the space back into public use by providing a place for people to relax, sit and enjoy their surroundings.
Commenting on the park, Adrian Waddell, Director of Operations at NE1 Ltd, said: “This high quality development compliments Chinatown’s unique character and we’re confident the garden will be enjoyed by the thousands of visitors to Newcastle’s Chinatown each month.”
The use of slate alongside Hardwood is possible with many of our products and something we can fulfil in-house utilising the skills and expertise of our sister company SlateScape.
