Somerset based Quercus® UK Ltd, has won a gold medal at the prestigious centenary RHS Chelsea Flower Show in a collaboration with grow-your-own and floral seed specialists King Seeds in Essex.

Quercus, which manufactures handmade oak fencing and products at its workshops in Keinton Mandeville, had been asked to create a bespoke English oak pergola and fencing panels for the King Seeds stand. The design for the stand was created by BBC Gardener of the Decade, Katherine Crouch, from Ilminster. The interactive and educational stand was situated in the new Environment Marquee at Chelsea, and it presented a reflection on vegetable growing and seed retailing over the last 125 years, exhibiting some fascinating original equipment from 1888 to the current day. It also showcased how key events and lifestyle changes have impacted upon gardening and influenced our attitudes as to what, where and how we grow to eat.

Quercus also had their own trade stand at Chelsea this year and they welcomed some of the Show’s 150,000 visitors onto their stand to view and buy their range of English oak products. Quercus’ trade stand included a display of 1500 oak saplings which were planted up to demonstrate the importance of oak as a truly sustainable product and to emphasise that all its garden products are made using solid oak (Quercus Robur).

Commenting on the show, Quercus’ MD Lisa Beard said, “We are absolutely delighted to have been part of the gold medal winning stand with King Seeds – it was a great experience working with them on this great collaboration.”

She continued, “RHS Chelsea Flower Show is an essential event for our business as it gives us the most prestigious platform to exhibit our range of products to visitors from around the UK and the world. This centenary year at Chelsea has been really positive for us and we are delighted to have taken many orders which will help grow our business again this year. The show is always very exciting but after the week is over, we are always delighted to get back home to Somerset and we are bringing our gold medal back with us this time too.”
