Provision of street furniture for a playful and surreal landscape along Blackpool’s seafront to transform the area into the People’s Playground. The scheme included the creation of a comedy carpet to draw the public’s attention, an artificial dunescape, fantastical outsized sculptures, and a spectacular recreation of the northern lights to enhance the Blackpool Illuminations experience.
Solution
Bespoke hardwood seating was created by Woodscape to complement this unusual scheme, made to the highest specification to withstand the bracing coastal environment.
Outcome
The Tower Festival Headland has transformed the seafront by bringing new life and new quality to the area. This public space was the Winner of the 2012 Regeneration & Renewal Awards in the ‘Design Excellence’ category.
