Challenge
The client wanted a distinctive co-ordinated range of bespoke planters for the open-air rooftop garden terrace of a prestigious residential property.
The planters would be based on the client’s own idea for a series of wave-shaped designs to run along the terrace perimeter and form a feature in the centre of the garden.
Locating such a large number of exterior furniture items and plants on the roof garden would need a carefully engineered solution. Lightweight planters would be needed, so as not to jeopardise the integrity of the roof.
At the same time, the distinctive and complex shapes that the client had in mind for the bespoke planters would be impossible, or at least prohibitively expensive, to produce in conventional construction materials.
Solution
Livingreen took the client’s conceptual sketches for the bespoke planters and drew on the skills and expertise of its own professional product designers to create viable shop drawings, CAD renderings and 3D models for approval.
The company then manufactured the range of 'Surf' planters in its own factory. Its Advanced Composite GRP construction material was sufficiently workable to allow the elaborate profiles to be replicated.
Advanced Composite’s especially lightweight properties made it suitable for safe rooftop installation. Together with its durability, frost-resistance and high-quality finish, this allowed the client’s idea and vision to be turned into a successful finished product.
